The Legacy Museum
This journey through our past and our present should be "required reading" for every American.
My 30-day, 20-state adventure was meant to be many things. Restful. Connecting. Beautiful. Soul-expanding. Revisiting The Legacy Museum was always going to be an experience not to be missed on my “Southern Leg.” Sharp. Painful. Confronting. Soul-expanding. It is a place that every American who believes in liberty and justice and mercy must experience. An interactive journey from enslavement to mass incarceration, a lens to experiences both our history and our present that you feel in your bones. It’s power and necessity cannot be overstated.
One of the older enslaved Black women prays with you saying, “All children should have faith — theses troubles cannot last.” We are still responsible for ending “these troubles.” There is work to do today to understand, acknowledge and make amends, to make our nation what it can and must be for all humans to flourish.
